Lerner David’s summer associate program is open to students completing their second year of law school. Because patent law plays a central role in our practice, applicants must have an undergraduate degree in science or engineering, or have sufficient credits in technical disciplines to obtain admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. We are committed to finding motivated and talented individuals who can grow and develop into our future partners.
We ask our summer associates to spend 8 weeks with us beginning in June and ending at the end of July. Summer associates are offered a wide variety of work projects and enjoy an informal and collegial work atmosphere. Our firm’s continued success depends upon our ability to hire and develop top legal talent. To that end, we are committed to providing our summer associates with excellent training and exposure to a variety of matters. Each summer associate is assigned an attorney mentor to help facilitate the transition from law student to summer associate. Our summer program includes many opportunities for summer associates to get to know the firm’s lawyers as well as one another. Social events consist of themed happy hours and other informal events.
Summer associates at Lerner David rapidly gain hands-on experience in all aspects of our diversified intellectual property practice. Summer associates are selected with the vision that they will receive offers and join our firm as associates. As a new associate, our attorneys are quickly given the opportunity to work closely with clients and attorneys in areas including patent and trademark prosecution, licensing, acquisition due diligence, infringement studies and opinions, and litigation throughout the United States and abroad.
Lerner, David was noted for its informal atmosphere long before big-city firms “invented” casual Fridays. We maintain an open-door, noncompetitive environment where questions are encouraged and where dialogue among all of our attorneys is commonplace. It is the ideal environment in which to build a practice and advance your career.
Our firm practices in Cranford, New Jersey, a town located about ten miles southwest of Newark Airport and a 30-minute drive from New York City. Cranford and surrounding communities offer varied living opportunities. Our proximity to major highways and New Jersey Transit trains make it possible to commute to our offices from locations as diverse as Manhattan, the Jersey Shore, Princeton, and still-rural communities near the Delaware River.
The application deadline for the 2025 summer associate program is August 15, 2024.
